UTSC is a death-trap!
I'm sort of in this predicament where I need this 0.5 300-level credit and I hate every class that I've chosen at St. George and Erindale. So I decided to sample some Scarborough courses. It was a Wednesday when I added 2 of their courses but their lectures were on Tuesdays at 2-4 and 3-5. So I had to wait another week to see the syllabi, decided which one I liked better (easier... :S) and drop the other one. On Tuesdays I have class at St. George from 12-1 so IMMEDIATELY after class I rushed to the subway station, got on the RT and then onto a bus to UTSC. I got there at 2 RIGHT on the dot. St. George campus to Scarborough campus in an hour...that was an achievement unto itself. So I go to the first class and asked a girl to see the syllabus for the first course. Read read read...blah blah blah... Nope...don't like it. NEXT! I go to the classroom, asked another girl to see the syllabus. Read read read...blah blah blah...(A lot more blah blah blah I must say)... Nope...don't like this one either. DROP BOTH! So I ended up adding a course for next semester. HOPEFULLY I will like that one and be the end of this craziness. But this isn't why UTSC is a death-trap. After I spent like an HOUR on a computer in the library, I decided to leave. I was walking around and see an EXIT sign. Of course, me not being a UTSC student have no idea which exits to use and which exits not to use, I just walked out the door into a stairwell expecting it to lead me outside or at least downstairs. It lead me to a door to the outside all right...but unbeknownst to me it was like the back way out and used SOLELY for evacuation purposes only and an alarm would sound if I opened the door. So I thought "Oh, I'll just go back upstairs and out another way..." BUT NO. THERE ARE NO HANDLES ON THIS SIDE OF THE DOORS... :| WHO DOESN'T PUT FRICKING HANDLES ON BOTH SIDES OF EMERGENCY DOORS?! So basically I was trapped in the abandoned stairwell with no way out except for the alarm ringing doors. I was like walking back and forth trying to think of what to do...and then I thought to heck with it. I waited until there were minimal lifesigns in the immediate vicinity and went through the alarm doors! I strolled away pretty quickly and the alarm rung for a second or so. THANK GOODNESS it didn't trigger a bigger alarm where EVERYONE had to evacuate. That's the tale of my experience at UTSC. Let me tell you it ain't gonna trap me next time!
