Oh, What A Day!

So today our Earth Science 202 class went westward on a fieldtrip to the Niagara Escarpment and the Niagara Gorge. The weather wasn't that great but it was still a lot of fun! I took some pictures as well; You can see them throughout the post.
Our first stop was at Bruce Trail where we hiked some of the steepest hills to Borer's Falls. It was just a tiny waterfall so there's no picture of that. By the time we got back to the cars my legs were going numb.
Our second stop was at the Featherstone Estate Winery & Vineyard where we learned a bit about grape-growing along the Niagara Escarpment and wine-making. We also had a wine tasting where we tried Riesling, Gamay Noir, Cranberry Wine, and an ice wine. I personally liked the Cranberry Wine the best because it was like cranberry juice and it wasn't has bitter as the other wines. I know the ice wine is a dessert wine but it was just too sweet for me. After the sampling, people bought wine, while I secretly took an unused cork as a souvenir when nobody was looking...LOL.

Next, we went to Balls Falls (ha ha...laugh it up) Conservation Area to have lunch.

Then we went to Brock's Monument National Historic Site at the Niagara Escarpment, the mouth of the Niagara Gorge and the Niagara Gorge section at Sir Adam Beck Power Generating Station, looking at the rock formations all the while.

Lastly, we went to the Whirlpool upstream from the Niagara river. We were supposed to go to Niagara Falls last but we had to cut that out because it was getting late. I wish we had gone though.
On our way back home, it was pouring cats and dogs, with thunder and lightning. Thank you God that we got back safely.
